With construction underway, Mason City’s city administrator says hotel project marks recent success of community

MASON CITY — Mason City’s city administrator says the groundbreaking for the hotel that’s part of the River City Renaissance Project marks the recent success of the community.

Aaron Burnett says there’s been several positives, including continued investment in the community with new housing and industry expansion and creation, as well as with outdoor recreation opportunities.  “This is all while we celebrate and honor our unique identity and history. The city and our partners are not stopping with the progress to date, but rather constantly working with partners to take the next step forward, to continue to create the community we want for our friends and families.”

Burnett says Mason City’s recent progress has been noticed by many around the state.  “I hear from folks all across the state — they are sick of hearing about Mason City’s projects and praise for all of our efforts. I just tell them ‘I hate to break it to you, but we’re just getting started’. Mason City is open to visitors, it’s open to business, and it’s open to new residents. This place is no longer a well-kept secret, but it’s a blueprint for other communities to follow.”

The 88-room Home2 Suites by Hilton extended stay hotel will be part of the new Riverwalk District and connect to Music Man Square via the already constructed skywalk. Construction is expected to last about 18 months.
