Clear Lake council approves forwarding Oaks Hotel plan to Planning & Zoning Commission

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council last night approved forwarding a plan to the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission on the Oaks Hotel project that’s proposed to be placed in the Surf District.
The council at their October 6th meeting heard about a fourth option for the hotel site plan, which called for 7th Avenue North to be realigned behind the hotel area, allowing for a plaza to be created between the hotel and the Surf Ballroom Music Experience Center. The council showed a consensus for that option at that meeting but did not take a formal vote approving it until last night.
City Administrator Steve Diers says, “Based on that discussion and the consensus from council that night, we have put a resolution together that would have the council look at approving what would be option four to go to Planning & Zoning for their review. Their conceptual review of the plan which would then ultimately come back to the council with a formal recommendation. Like I said, it’s set up for option four. If there is changes, that can be changed, but based on the consensus, that seems to be the way people want to go forward.”
The council approved forwarding the plan on a 4-0 vote, with councilman Bennett Smith missing last night’s meeting due to illness.
