Clear Lake triathlon moving to late August in 2026

CLEAR LAKE — The “TRI Clear Lake” triathlon is being moved from a spring to a late summer event. The triathlon has been a Memorial Day weekend event in recent years, but cold water temperatures have had an impact on the event.

Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Stacy Doughan says moving the event to the end of August should be a better fit for the event.   “We have moved it to the end of August. We’re going to hold it the weekend before Labor Day. After battling cold water temps year after year after year, we decided it would be a good move to get that into a time of year where we’re not going to have to worry about water temperatures.”

Doughan says they should also have more people who will be willing to help with the triathlon.  “It should also be more favorable for volunteers as well because our kids will be coming back for school, NIACC will be back for school, it just gives us a greater volunteer base, and that event takes over 200 volunteers to make happen. So we’re looking forward to having that later this summer next year.”

Over 500 athletes competed in this year’s event. The “TRI Clear Lake” has once again been named as the state championship race by USA Triathlon for 2026. For more, head to this link.
