Tyler Kober, 33, Des Moines

Loved deeply and missed beyond measure, Tyler Brian Kober, passed away on October 21, 2025,
at the age of 33.

Tyler was born on May 28, 1992, in Mason City, Iowa, where he also grew up and attended Mason
City High School, graduating in 2011. From a young age, Tyler had an adventurous curiosity and a
love for sports and the outdoors. Throughout childhood, he could be found riding bikes, playing
football, baseball, and any other sport imaginable with his buddies in his beloved neighborhood
of Eastbrooke. While in high school, Tyler participated in baseball, track, and football, where he
lettered in all three sports.

After high school, Tyler graduated from both Kirkwood Community College and the University of
Northern Iowa, earning a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He went on to teach Physical
Education and Health at Expo Alternative High School in Waterloo, IA and Meredith Middle School
in Des Moines, IA. Tyler had a natural ability to form connections with his students by showing
them both compassion and respect. In 2021, he decided to step away from teaching and entered
the service industry, where he took great pride in providing excellent service to his customers. He
recently made the decision to return to the education field as he felt drawn to work with At-Risk
students again.

Spending quality time with his family and friends is what brought Tyler true joy. He cherished the
numerous family trips spent attending out-of-state sporting events, exploring tropical
destinations, and skiing the mountains of Colorado. He was a passionate fan of the Minnesota
Vikings and Iowa State Cyclones and spent many fall Saturdays in Jack Trice Stadium over the
past 25 years. Tyler also loved hunting, listening to podcasts, watching movies, eating great
meals, and talking to truly get to know people. Tyler’s family will tell you that his character was
built on loyalty, empathy, patience, and strength.

Tyler is survived by his parents, Chad Kober, Cher and Scott Anderson; his siblings, Parker
(Whitney) Kober, Brooke Anderson, Cole Anderson, Renner Kober; nephew Crosby Kober;
grandparents, Janean Kober, Daniel and Bette Knecht, Jon and Patricia Rhiger, Russ and Vicki
Anderson; aunts and uncles, Wendy (Peter) Kokal, Tia (Ryan) McInroy, Brandi Nehls, Michael
(Alyssa) Rhiger, David (Heather) Beck, Jon (Rhonda) Beck, Jeri (Todd) Fekkers, Carrie (Eddie)
Berger, Dawn (Lance) Guth; cousins, Ali (Chris) Kerber, Ryan Begemann, Harper, Holden, and
Nathanial McInroy, Maranda Nehls, Devon and Brynn Ingram, Khloe Hjelle, Trenton and Travis
Fekkers, Kate (Michael) Fjone, Myles and Aliyah Berger, Peyton, Dylan, Taylor Guth, Jager and
Jaxon Beck, Thane Rhiger as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Don Kober and cousin, Jordan Nehls.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday October 26, 2025, at Ward
Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave. North, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428; with Mark Doebel leading
the service. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00p.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent in their care for a memorial scholarship to be
created in Tyler’s name.

Though his time with us was far too short, Tyler’s kindness, humor, and gentle spirit left a lasting
impact on everyone who knew him. He had a huge heart that saw the best in everyone. Tyler’s
final act of kindness was the gift of organ donation, allowing his light to continue shining through
others.
