Mason City man taken into custody after early morning shooting

MASON CITY — A Mason City man is in jail after a shooting incident early Monday morning.
The Mason City Police Department says they were called to a disturbance at a private residence on 29th Street Southwest shortly before 4:00 AM. While responding, officers located another person involved in the incident who was driving themselves to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
Officers at the scene were able to identify the occupants of the house and located evidence of a shooting. A firearm was recovered from inside the home after a search warrant was obtained for the residence.
35-year-old Michael Orozco was admitted to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.
30-year-old Cody Dakin has been charged with being a prohibited possessor of a firearm. He is currently in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on no bond pending a court appearance.
