Hinson says it’s time Democrats stop playing games with government shutdown

WASHINGTON — The Senate for the 13th time has not been able to move forward on the continuing resolution passed by the House to end the government shutdown.

North-central Iowa congresswoman Ashley Hinson says Democrats are continuing to play games and not vote for ending the government shutdown. The Republican from Marion, whose district includes Cerro Gordo, Worth, Floyd, Mitchell and Butler counties in our immediate listening area, says she hopes Democrats come to their senses soon.  “Last week, we saw the number two House Democrat confirm her party is keeping the government shut down for leverage. They aren’t even hiding it anymore, they think hard working Americans are pawns and leverage in their political game. Chuck Schumer is still afraid of getting primaried, so he continues to put up a so-called fight against President Trump, no matter the pain it causes the American people.”

Hinson says we’re approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats as they continue to vote against a continuing resolution to reopen the government.   “They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegals or reopen the government so America’s most vulnerable families can actually receive timely WIC and SNAP allotments. We know that SNAP is set to run out of funding as soon as Saturday, November 1st. That would mean 42 million Americans, approximately 142,000 Iowans, these are vulnerable parents, children and seniors, and they wouldn’t have the ability to buy groceries, and yet, Democrats couldn’t care less. This is their, quote, ‘leverage’.”

The Senate vote to proceed on the continuing resolution failed on a 54-45 vote, with 60 votes needed to advance the funding bill.
