Grassley asks FTC to look into allegations of fraud by popular national wedding planning website

WASHINGTON — Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is urging the Federal Trade Commission to investigate a popular national wedding planning website and online business marketplace after numerous complaints about fraud.

Grassley says his office has received hundreds of complaints about the website “The Knot”, alleging the company failed to honor contracts, misled vendors, and engaged in deceptive business practices.

Grassley first raised the issue to the FTC and the Securities and Exchange Commission in March, and last week sent a follow-up letter to the FTC. “You shouldn’t get away with defrauding small businesses, and our efforts are to protect small business and help them avoid being defrauded, and to bring attention to the fact that the defrauding is going on and things of that nature. We’ve got the FTC looking into it.”

Grassley’s office says more than 200 formal complaints have been made to the FTC about alleged fraudulent activity on “The Knot”.
