Algona man pleads not guilty to extensive credit card fraud in Cerro Gordo County

Both Algona residents charged with extensive credit card fraud in Cerro Gordo County have now pleaded not guilty.

A criminal complaint accuses 31-year-old Norays Abreu Perera and 34-year-old Danisbel Delgado Horta of using forged and stolen credit card information to make multiple purchases in Clear Lake between May 18th and May 30th of this year, with the complaint stating that the pair engaged in a pattern of specified unlawful activity designed to secure financial gain on a continuing basis.

Both have been charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Horta also has been charged with six counts of unauthorized use of a credit card and one count of forgery. Abreu Perera also has been charged with five counts of unauthorized use of credit cards.

Horta was due in court for his arraignment hearing today, but records show he filed a written plea of not guilty to the charges on Friday in Cerro Gordo County District Court. Abreu Perera filed a written plea of not guilty last week.

Both their trials are scheduled to start on January 13th.
