Jerry D. Graney, 92, of Mason City

Jerry D. Graney, 92, of Mason City, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at
MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday,
November 6, 2025, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126
3rd Street NE, Mason City. Graveside services will follow at
Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, where Jerry will be laid
to rest beside his parents.

Jerry Duane Graney was born June 29, 1933, in Mason City, the son
of Dancliff and Loretta (Kelly) Graney. He grew up alongside his
siblings, Robert, Jack, and Barb, and graduated from Mason City High School. Jerry and
his brothers shared a love of the outdoors, spending countless days hunting and
fishing—traditions that carried through the years and were often shared with family and
friends. Following high school, Jerry attended North Iowa Area Community College,
where he earned his associate degree before proudly serving in the United States Army
from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War. After returning home, Jerry began a long and
steady career at Decker and later Armour, where he worked for more than 20 years. He
finished his career at Carroll Sales, retiring in 1995 after years of dedicated service in
the warehouse.

A talented athlete, Jerry’s love for sports never faded. He played baseball and basketball
in both high school and college, and his skill on the softball field eventually earned him a
place in the Iowa Men’s Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. In his later years, he enjoyed
watching football and baseball, cheering especially for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Jerry also loved staying active and could often be found out for a walk, enjoying the
fresh air and greeting neighbors along his route. He was a lifetime member of the VFW
and was known for his sharp wit and easygoing sense of humor—especially when it
came to his age.

Surviving are his son, Shane (Karry) Graney of Mason City; his granddaughter, Madison
(Ian Shaffer Paulsen) Graney; great-grandson, Silas Zachary Graney; nieces and
nephew, Karla (Kent) Strong, Kevin Graney, and Kelly Graney; cherished companion,
Norma Jean Swenson; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Greeting him in Heaven are his grandson, Zachary; parents; siblings, Robert Graney,
Jack (Elsie) Graney and Barb (Buster) Sasse.
