Mason City man in jail after leading authorities on high speed pursuit Tuesday night

MASON CITY — A Mason City man is in jail after a high speed chase last night.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says at about 9:35 last night, a deputy attempted a traffic stop at the intersection of 6th and North Federal in Mason City, with the suspect vehicle fleeing. During the pursuit, 37-year-old Clay Kalvig allegedly drove at high speeds on several streets in Mason City, including through the construction zone on South Federal Avenue, causing damage.
A deputy’s vehicle was damaged during the pursuit. Kalvig was finally arrested near the intersection of 5th and South Vermont after the vehicle sustained significant damage.
The Sheriff’s Office says marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle.
He was charged with eluding enhanced for two prior convictions of eluding, a Class C felony, as well as possession with the intent to deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while barred, and no proof of insurance.
Kalvig is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a total of $20,000 bond.
