Soft opening to be held next week for Prairie Rock Trails Bike Park in Mason City

MASON CITY — A soft opening will be held next week at the Prairie Rock Trails Bike Park in the northeastern portion of Mason City. The park that’s located at 1500 Elm Drive is a world-class facility adjacent to the Lime Creek Conservation Area, connecting riders to more than 20 miles of trails and 600 acres of scenic parkland.

Mayor Bill Schickel made the formal invitation to residents during this week’s meeting of the City Council.   “Grab your bike, bring your friends, and ride with the pros at Prairie Rock Trails next Wednesday afternoon, that will be at 3 o’clock.”

Schickel says the event will give residents a first look at Iowa’s first-of-its-kind mountain bike park.  “The nationally-recognized design and construction team Rock Solid Contracting will officially hand over the concluded park to the city at that time. You’re all invited.”

While the soft opening will take place next Wednesday afternoon to give the community a preview, a larger grand opening and dedication event is planned for next May.

The project was made possible through a $4.5 million Destination Iowa grant, which is a statewide initiative aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing quality of life.
