Mason City man charged with burglary given suspended sentence, probation

MASON CITY — It’s a suspended sentence and probation for a Mason City man charged with burglary.

26-year-old Dwayne Heard was accused of forcing open a locked door of a home in the 600 block of 3rd Northeast on the morning of August 25th. The complaint says Heard has a no-contact order with the resident of the home, and while inside, Heard allegedly made contact with the resident. Heard is also accused of grabbing a knife from the kitchen and stabbing a bed before leaving.

Heard was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

As part of a plea agreement, Heard pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted burglary, a Class D felony. He was sentenced last week to a suspended five-year prison sentence and was placed on three years probation. He was also ordered to serve 180 days in a residential facility.
