Charles City man sentenced to ten years in prison on lascivious acts charges

CHARLES CITY — It’s ten years in prison for a Charles City man who pleaded guilty to sexual abuse.
38-year-old Randy McFarland was accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 10 between July and September 2024 at his residence. McFarland was arrested by Charles City police last November after the child was interviewed by authorities at the Allen Child Protection Center in Waterloo as part of their investigation.
McFarland was originally charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, McFarland pleaded guilty to two counts of lascivious acts with a child, a Class C felony.
District Judge DeDra Schroeder this week sentenced McFarland to ten years in prison on each charge, with the sentences to run at the same time.
