Suspect dead after officer-involved shooting in Grundy County Sunday night

GRUNDY COUNTY — A Waterloo man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Grundy County on Sunday night.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says at about 9:30 last night, members of the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and several local law enforcement agencies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by a wanted male subject out of Waterloo.
The driver refused to stop with a pursuit ensuing. During the pursuit, the subject’s vehicle was disabled and came to a stop on the side of the road.
The suspect got out of the vehicle, produced a firearm, and fired at officers. Deputies with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and a State Trooper returned fire, striking the suspect.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures on the suspect. The suspect was transported to a hospital in Waterloo, where he was later pronounced dead. The involved officers were not injured and were placed on critical incident leave in accordance with department policy.
The DPS says this is an ongoing investigation and no further details are being released at this time.
