Mason City Transit bus strikes pedestrian

MASON CITY — A Rockwell man was taken to the hospital after being hit by a Mason City Transit bus on Wednesday afternoon.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 3rd Northwest and North Washington at 2:30 yesterday afternoon when a transit bus driven by 79-year-old Ralph Madison of Mason City that was facing westbound turned south and failed to yield to a pedestrian, 68-year-old Francis Hanig of Rockwell. The bus struck Hanig at the front of the vehicle.

Hanig was transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Mason City police and fire. The accident remains under investigation.
