St. Ansgar falls in Class A state championship game

CEDAR FALLS — Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn/Remsen-Union jumped out to a 17-0 lead midway through the first half and held on to beat St. Ansgar 30-17 in the Class A state championship high school football game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls Thursday afternoon. The Saints cut the lead to 17-10 in the third quarter on a Porter Schwiesow 26 yard field goal, but the Royals scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Korben Michaels led St. Ansgar with 134 yards rushing and returned a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. St. Ansgar ends their season with a 12-1 record.
