Mason City to Enact Alternate Side Parking Ordinance Friday Night

Mason City officials are putting the Alternate Side Parking Ordinance and Emergency Snow Route into effect beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, due to a forecast calling for measurable snowfall. The regulations will remain in place until further notice.

While the ordinance is active, drivers will need to follow the city’s alternate side parking rules:

  • Parking is allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street on odd-numbered days of the month.

  • Parking is allowed on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered days of the month.

  • Vehicles must be moved to the correct side between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. the evening before the designated day.

  • Parking is prohibited on the vehicle turnaround portions of cul-de-sacs.

  • Streets with posted “no parking at any time” signs on one side will temporarily follow alternate side parking instead.

  • Streets where parking is banned on both sides remain unchanged under the ordinance.

The Emergency Snow Route will also be in effect. No parking is allowed along 1st Street NW from Monroe Avenue to Pierce Avenue until further notice.

Some areas are exempt from alternate side parking rules, including U.S. Highway 122 and U.S. Highway 65 (south of 8th Street South and north of 5th Street North), as well as the downtown business district. The business district is defined as the area between Georgia Avenue and Adams Avenue, and between Fourth Street South and Fourth Street North. A three-block stretch of 2nd Street NE, from North Georgia Avenue to North Massachusetts Avenue, is also exempt. Parking within 100 feet of a business entrance is permitted during regular hours on the side adjacent to the building.
