Accumulating Snowfall Expected Across Iowa This Weekend

Iowa is gearing up for another round of wintry weather as a widespread snowfall event is expected to develop late Saturday and continue through Saturday night. According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, confidence is increasing that much of the state will see accumulating snow, with the best chances focused from central into northern Iowa.

Forecasters estimate a 60–70% chance of measurable snowfall Saturday evening into the overnight hours. Early indications suggest the snow will be drier and fluffier, which can accumulate more quickly and make roads slick.

However, several key factors remain uncertain, including exactly where the highest totals will set up. Meteorologists say snowfall amounts could shift as new data comes in, and they are also watching for the possibility of blowing snow on Sunday if winds increase behind the system.

Travel impacts appear most likely across central and northern Iowa late Saturday, with lower impacts expected toward the southeast. The Weather Service urges Iowans to stay up to date on the latest forecasts, rely on trusted weather sources, and plan ahead for potential travel disruptions.

More forecast refinements are expected as the weekend approaches.
