Una Vocis Kicks Off Season with Festive “Gloria” Performance December 13

MASON CITY — Una Vocis Choral Ensemble will welcome the holiday season with a radiant evening of music as it opens its 2025–2026 season on Saturday, December 13, at 7 p.m. The concert, Gloria, will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 1st St. NE in Mason City.
The program blends centuries-old Christmas carols with modern choral works, featuring some of North Iowa’s finest singers, brass players, and percussionists. Among the evening’s highlights is a special appearance by Mason City native Kylie Hansen, Una Vocis’ Artist-in-Residence. Hansen, daughter of Matt and the late Angie Hansen, will perform in both Ola Gjeilo’s carols and John Rutter’s Gloria, adding a personal touch to the season’s celebration.
Una Vocis’s youth choir, NordKor, directed by Melissa Shallberg, will open the second half of the program. Audience members will also be invited to join both choirs in singing two beloved Christmas carols, continuing a cherished community tradition.
The centerpiece of the night is John Rutter’s Gloria, a vibrant and powerful work performed with local brass and percussionists who share a strong musical connection to the community.
Following the performance, guests are encouraged to stay for the ensemble’s popular “Savories and Sweets” reception—an opportunity to enjoy holiday treats and warm conversation.
