Skate with Santa Returns Dec. 21 with New “Quarter Christmas Store” at Mason City Arena

Main Street Mason City is bringing back a favorite holiday tradition as Skate with Santa returns on Sunday, December 21, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Mason City Arena. The annual celebration is presented in partnership with North Iowa Figure Skating, the Mason City Youth Hockey Association, and Mason City Parks & Recreation.

Admission to the event is a non-perishable food item or cash donation, with all proceeds supporting the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank. Skaters may bring their own skates, or take advantage of free skate rentals, made possible through sponsorships from North Iowa Figure Skating and the Mason City Youth Hockey Association.

Santa Claus will be visiting with families and posing for photos from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Club Room on the Concourse. Guests can also enjoy festive activities and holiday-themed photo stations throughout the arena. All attendees should enter through the MercyOne Lobby on the south side.

New for 2025: Quarter Christmas Store

This year’s event will debut a new attraction—the Quarter Christmas Store, a child-friendly holiday shop where kids can choose gifts for parents, siblings, grandparents, and loved ones. Each gift costs just 25 cents, offering children a fun and affordable way to experience the joy of giving.

The store will be located on the arena concourse, with all proceeds also benefiting the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank.

Community members are invited to donate new or gently used, giftable items, such as:

  • Small home décor

  • Candles

  • Fashion jewelry

  • Knick-knacks

  • Picture frames

  • Books

  • Seasonal items

  • Accessories

  • Small kitchen items

  • Novelty items

  • Gadgets or tools

  • Other small, gift-worthy trinkets

Clothing and furniture will not be accepted. Monetary donations for purchasing store items are also welcome.

Donations can be dropped off now through December 18 at the Main Street Mason City office inside the Downtown Welcome Center, 13 N. Federal Avenue, during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).

A Celebration with Community Impact

“Skate with Santa brings together families, neighbors, and local organizations for a joyful holiday celebration—and all while helping support the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank,” said Diane Arndt, Chair of the Main Street Mason City Promotions Committee. “We’re especially excited about the new Quarter Christmas Store, which gives kids an affordable and empowering way to participate in gift-giving this season.”
