MC City Council Meets Tuesday 12-16

The Mason City Council meets Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Mason City Public Library, with a full agenda that includes personnel changes, infrastructure contracts, and several final votes on city code updates.
The meeting opens with the City Administrator’s Monthly Report before the council moves to a 15-item consent agenda. Among the recommendations, Sergeant Seth McChesney would be promoted to Police Lieutenant, and Matthew Freese would be hired as a Heavy Equipment Operator in Tree Maintenance.
Council members will also consider naming the Mason City Globe Gazette as the official newspaper for 2025, approving a change order and final payment for the Police Department remodel, and awarding engineering contracts for 2026 bridge inspections and for a FEMA-supported stormwater mitigation study.
Another item would authorize payment to Alliant Energy for relocating a gas main tied to the Pierce Avenue extension project, while a separate resolution approves a pre-selection contract with Veolia for upgrades at the Water Supply Plant. The city is also considering the purchase of property at 810 North Commercial Alley.
Two public hearings are scheduled. One covers Budget Amendment Number One for the current fiscal year, and the other reviews Urban Renewal Plan Amendment Number Six for the Forest Park Economic Development Area.
Following those hearings, the council will take up several action items. These include a final vote on updated building codes, adjustments to the city’s Master Fee Schedule, and continued readings on updates to the Fire Code, Zoning Code, and Solid Waste fees. Some of these may be approved on their final readings Monday night.
