Mayor Schickel’s Last Meeting – Hear his goodbye

Outgoing Mayor Bill Schickel presided over his last Mason City City Council Meeting Tuesday night.  Aside from the usual business conducted during the meeting, Schickel gave a farewell message to the council to close the meeting.  Schickel ended his goodbye message with words of inspiration on the future of the city.

Schickel has served as mayor of Mason City for 20 years and leaves the office with the distinction of being the longest serving mayor in the city’s history.

In November, Mason City elected a new Mayor, Mason City High School History Teacher, John Lee. Lee served on the council for 14 years under three different mayors, including Schickel. Lee was in attendance last year as Schickel said his final goodbyes.
