“Shop with a Cop” in Charles City Surpasses $10,000 Giveaway Mark
More than three dozen Floyd County children were treated to holiday shopping last week during the annual “Shop With A Cop” with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), Charles City Police Department and Nora Springs Police Department.
According to an FCSO social media post, 40 elementary students from Immaculate Conception, Lincoln, and Washington in Charles City, plus Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock and Central Springs Schools went Christmas shopping at Theisen’s in Charles City on Wednesday (12.10) night. Each child was allowed around $45 to spend as they wished, partnered with an officer or deputy.
School counselors helped select the children who went shopping while working with their families.
The FCSO also post notes, “One student only wanted one gift (so) as to not be greedy, a few kids wanted to use a portion of their money to buy something for their siblings instead, another family gathered a few items with their own money to pay-it-forward for others. Together we are ALL making a difference.”
The cost for kids to “Shop with a Cop” was paid for entirely by donations, with Theisen’s contributing over $750 and Cartersville Elevator covering expenses for all of the Central Springs students.
This was the ninth year of the event, which has gifted students over the years with over $10,000 in toys and clothing.
