Blizzard Warning Issued for Parts of Iowa Through This Evening

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect for portions of north-central and northwest Iowa until 9 p.m. CST tonight, as rapidly deteriorating weather conditions move through the region.
The National Weather Service warns that conditions may change quickly from relatively fair weather to near-whiteout visibility. While additional snowfall totals are expected to remain modest—up to one inch—strong winds will be the primary concern, with gusts reaching 55 mph.
These winds, combined with falling and blowing snow, are expected to create dangerous travel conditions, particularly during the Thursday evening commute. Roads may become slick in a short amount of time, and visibility could drop to near zero at times.
Officials also warn that powerful wind gusts could lead to tree damage and make travel especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles, such as semis, vans, and SUVs.
Residents are urged to limit travel to emergencies only. Anyone who must be on the roads should carry a winter survival kit and be prepared for sudden changes in conditions. If drivers become stranded, authorities stress the importance of staying with the vehicle until help arrives.
WeatherIowa will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates as conditions evolve throughout the evening.
