Snow Bursts, Gusty Winds Prompt Winter Weather Advisory for Northern Iowa

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of northern Iowa, where snow showers and brief snow squalls are expected to impact travel through this evening.
Forecasters say snow bursts paired with strong winds could lead to rapid and sudden drops in visibility, making travel hazardous at times. Gusts may reach up to 55 mph, especially across open and north–south oriented roadways, where strong crosswinds could pose additional challenges for drivers.
While snowfall totals are expected to remain relatively light, localized accumulations of up to one inch are possible. Even small amounts of snow may quickly lead to slick road conditions, particularly on rural roads and during heavier bursts of snow.
The greatest impacts are expected between 2 PM and 6 PM, coinciding with the evening commute, though conditions may remain unsettled through 9 PM.
Motorists are urged to anticipate delays, be prepared for sudden whiteout conditions, and use extra caution if traveling this afternoon or evening. Officials also advise slowing down, increasing following distance, and remaining alert for rapidly changing road conditions.
The advisory highlights concerns for sharply reduced visibility, hazardous travel, and commute impacts, especially in northern counties under the advisory area.
Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates and monitor road conditions before heading out.
