Mason City to repurpose Harding Elementary by 2026-27 school year

The Mason City Community School District plans to repurpose the Harding Elementary building by the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The district’s Board of Education approved a reconfiguration plan during its December 15 meeting that will move teachers and classes out of the Harding building and into the district’s other three elementary schools.

Superintendent Pat Hamilton says class sizes will not increase, as staff and students will be relocated to elementary schools that have been operating below capacity.

Under the plan, the Harding building will be repurposed to house the Mason City Alternative School and the Pinecrest Center, along with some administrative offices.
