First IHSAA Boys Basketball Rankings Released for 2025-26
Two area schools make a top 10 appearance
The first release of the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s boys basketball rankings for the 2025-26 season was released Monday afternoon. A couple area teams appear on the first edition. Clear Lake, the defending class 3A state runner-up, clock in at #3 in 3A. In class 1A, Bishop Garrigan, Algona is ranked #7.
Clear Lake has started the season 4-0, including a win vs #2 in 2A Kuemper Catholic, Carroll at the Hardwood Classic at Iowa Central back on December 13. Bishop Garrigan, Algona is currently 5-1 so far on the year, with their lone blemish so far being a 4 point loss at home to #5 in 2A Western Christian, Hull. The Golden Bears were also scheduled to face #8 in 1A Coon Rapids-Bayard at the Hardwood Classic on December 13, but weather restrictions caused that game to be cancelled.
The IHSA will release these rankings weekly, with the rankings being used as a primary tool for postseason assignments. Each class’s top 10 is a consensus list built by a select committee for each class. The committees consist of two former head coaches, one media member, and three IHSAA staff members.
