Ventura Firefighter Struck at Crash Scene on Highway 18

A Ventura firefighter was struck and injured by a vehicle traveling through a crash scene on U.S. Highway 18 in Ventura Tuesday evening.
The Clear Lake Police Department says shortly after 5 p.m., Clear Lake police and the Ventura Fire Department were dispatched to a personal injury crash just west of the intersection of Highway 18 and North Main Street. While first responders were managing the scene and officers were investigating the crash, the firefighter was hit by a vehicle that continued through the original crash scene.
The vehicle was later stopped by a Clear Lake police officer.
The firefighter’s name has not been released. Authorities say the firefighter was taken by ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City with non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway 18 was closed for a short period of time. The Iowa State Patrol is handling the investigation into the crash involving the firefighter. Both crashes remain under investigation to determine the cause and whether impairment played a role.
