With the expansion of residential and business sites in Garner, the city was in need of getting bigger and better traffic lanes feeding into the city. The Iowa Department of Transportation did exactly that this past fall with the expanded shoulders and traffic lanes on Highway 18. Garner Mayor Tim Schmidt is happy with the transition.
Business and industry in the city have seen good growth and Schmidt feels it’s important to make sure access to the city is safe and effective.
Highway 18 inside Garner will turn into a three lane highway in the spring, but or now affords easy access for established businesses along the road.
