Christmas Tree Pickup In Mason City Scheduled for January 14

Iowans getting ready to put away the holidays can also plan for Christmas tree cleanup later this month.

City officials say curbside Christmas tree pickup will take place on Wednesday, January 14, and it’s a one-day-only collection. Residents are asked to have their trees at the curb by 7 a.m. that morning.

Before placing trees out for pickup, all decorations must be removed, including lights, ornaments, tree stands, nails, wire, and any metal fasteners. Trees taller than six feet should be cut in half, and officials say trees should not be placed in bags.

Wreaths and roping that contain wire should not be included with tree pickup and instead should go in regular household garbage.

With winter weather possible, residents are also asked to make sure trees are visible if snow accumulates before pickup day, so collection crews can easily spot them.

Anyone with questions about Christmas tree disposal can contact the city’s Sanitation Division at 641-421-3691.
