North Iowa Air Service Celebrates 25 Years of Growth and Flight

MASON CITY — What began as a small but determined operation inside the old Mason City terminal has grown into one of North Iowa’s aviation success stories.
On January 15, 2001, a newly formed division of Charles City Aeronautics officially opened its doors as North Iowa Air Service (NIAS). Spearheaded by Todd Kyle — now the company’s owner and president — the operation launched with just one trainer aircraft, five employees and a shared vision fueled by hard work and enthusiasm.
Twenty-five years later, that vision has taken flight.
Today, North Iowa Air Service operates five trainer aircraft and four charter aircraft, employs 22 people, and maintains a Part 141 Flight School partnership with North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). The organization has steadily expanded its services while remaining rooted in the region it serves.
“Twenty-five years — it’s been quite a ride,” Kyle said. “There are too many people that I want to thank, but first and foremost, my father, Bill Kyle, for having the faith in me to put me in charge of this venture. He’s been my mentor and my biggest supporter.”
Kyle also credited several longtime supporters for helping guide NIAS through its growth.
“Doug Rozendaal, Mark Holt and Ron Minert have been unwavering in their support and mentoring,” he said. “I have no words for what their support has meant.”
Beyond leadership, Kyle emphasized the importance of the people who have made NIAS what it is today.
“Thank you to the entire team that has worked at NIAS over the last 25 years,” he said. “You are what makes this a great organization.”
As the company celebrates its silver anniversary, Kyle said the focus remains on the future.
“We look forward to the next 25 years taking this organization to heights my grandfather, father, mother and the rest of our team never imagined,” he said. “Thank you all.”
North Iowa Air Service says it has several events and activities planned to mark the milestone, with more details to be announced in the coming months.
Cheers to 25 years of flight in North Iowa.
