Mobile Simulation Program Brings Advanced Emergency Training to Northwood

NORTHWOOD, Iowa — Northwood-area first responders will take part in advanced, hands-on clinical training later this month as a statewide mobile simulation program arrives in Worth County.

In partnership with Northwood Fire & EMS, the Simulation in Motion–Iowa (SIM-IA) mobile education truck will be in Northwood on Monday, Jan. 26, providing realistic emergency medical training for local healthcare professionals.

SIM-IA is a statewide program that delivers evidence-based clinical education to emergency medical services, hospital teams, businesses and community members across Iowa. The program uses semi-sized mobile simulation trucks that replicate both an emergency room bay and an ambulance setting.

The mobile unit is equipped with six high-fidelity patient simulators capable of mimicking realistic human responses, including changes in heart rate, breathing and vital signs. Each training session is recorded and reviewed, allowing participants to analyze their performance during post-simulation debriefings.

During the Northwood training, SIM-IA educators will work with Northwood Fire & EMS personnel on chest pain response protocols and newborn cardiac arrest interventions, using scenario-based simulations designed to mirror real-life emergencies.

The training session is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will last approximately three hours. It will take place at 98 8th St. N., Northwood.

Media representatives are invited to tour the SIM-IA truck, observe live training scenarios and speak with SIM-IA educators and local first responders. Visual opportunities will include emergency responders providing care to lifelike patient simulators while instructors control patient responses in real time from the truck’s control room.

SIM-IA is operated through the University of Iowa College of Nursing and is designed to bring advanced clinical education directly to communities that may not otherwise have access to high-end simulation facilities.
