One Injured in Cerro Gordo County Rollover Crash

MASON CITY, Iowa — One person was injured following a rollover crash Wednesday morning in Cerro Gordo County.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on January 28 near the intersection of Jonquil Avenue and 275th Street.

Authorities say a black 2021 BMW X3, driven by 37-year-old Desirrae Thompson of Clear Lake, was traveling south on Jonquil Avenue when the vehicle entered the east ditch. The SUV rolled at least once before coming to rest upside down in a field.

Clear Lake Fire Rescue and Clear Lake Ambulance responded to the scene and transported Thompson to MercyOne North Iowa for evaluation of possible head and neck injuries. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and both front and side airbags deployed.

A 4-year-old child was also in the vehicle and was reportedly properly secured and not injured. The child was transported to the hospital by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office to be with Thompson and was later released to the child’s father.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting agencies included Clear Lake Fire Medics, Clear Lake Fire Rescue and the Iowa State Patrol.
