No. 3 Cyclones Fall at No. 5 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. — No. 3 Iowa State dropped a hard-fought road dual to No. 5 Oklahoma State, 24-9, Sunday afternoon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowboys won the first seven bouts to build an early cushion before the Cyclones rallied with victories in the final three matches. Seven of the 10 bouts were decided by a takedown or less, underscoring how tight the dual was despite the final score.

With the loss, Iowa State fell to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 action. Oklahoma State improved to 12-1 on the season and remained unbeaten in league duals at 7-0.

Iowa State’s comeback began at 184 pounds, where No. 12 Isaac Dean put the Cyclones on the board with a 5-1 decision over Trevor Dopps. At 197, top-ranked Rocky Elam followed with one of the most dramatic bouts of the afternoon, edging No. 7 Cody Merrill, 4-1, with a last-second takedown in tiebreakers.

Heavyweight Yonger Bastida closed the dual on a strong note for the Cyclones, as the No. 1-ranked wrestler controlled his match and earned a 5-2 decision over No. 6 Konner Doucet.

Oklahoma State took control early, winning close matches at 125, 141, 149, 157 and 174 pounds, while also adding bonus points at 133 and 165.
