Flu Activity Remains High

Mitchell County Public Health is urging residents to remain vigilant as influenza activity continues to run high locally and across the state of Iowa.

According to public health officials, widespread flu cases are still being reported in the county, prompting renewed reminders about simple prevention steps that can help slow the spread of illness and protect vulnerable community members.

A recent public health graphic highlights several key actions residents can take to reduce transmission. These include getting a flu shot — which officials say is still effective and recommended, even late in the season — washing hands frequently with soap and water, and covering coughs and sneezes to prevent the spread of germs.

Health officials also stress the importance of staying home when sick. Limiting contact with others while experiencing flu-like symptoms can significantly reduce the chance of spreading the virus at work, school, or in public spaces.

“Taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference,” Mitchell County Public Health noted, encouraging residents to look out for one another as flu season continues.

Public health leaders remind residents that flu symptoms can include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, and congestion. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms or who is at higher risk for complications is encouraged to contact a healthcare provider.

Mitchell County Public Health says continued community cooperation is key to slowing the spread and keeping Iowa communities healthy.
