Two-Vehicle Crash Reported Near Rockwell Intersection

ROCKWELL — One person was cited following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 65 and 170th Street in Rockwell.

According to the Rockwell Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 1:46 p.m. on Feb. 3. A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 driven by Spencer Nash, 25, of Rockwell, was traveling southbound on Highway 65 and slowing to make a left turn onto 170th Street when it was rear-ended by a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu LS driven by William Russeff, 66, also of Rockwell.

The Malibu sustained airbag deployment and came to rest on the northbound shoulder of the highway. The Silverado stopped on the southbound shoulder. Both drivers declined medical attention at the scene.

Russeff’s vehicle was towed from the scene, and he was transported home by a Cerro Gordo County deputy. Russeff was cited for failure to stop within the assured clear distance, in violation of Iowa Code 321.285.

The Rockwell Police Department investigated the crash. Assisting agencies included the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Rockwell Fire Department, and Mason City Fire Medics.
