Bloomingdale Announces Re-Election Bid for Iowa House District 60

NORTHWOOD, Iowa — State Representative Jane Bloomingdale has announced she will seek a sixth term representing House District 60 in the Iowa Legislature.

Bloomingdale, a Republican from Northwood, said she is proud of the work accomplished during her time in office but believes more remains to be done.

“I am so grateful to the people of House District 60 for electing me to be their voice in the Statehouse,” Bloomingdale said in a statement. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done during my time in the Iowa House, but our work isn’t finished. We must deliver meaningful property tax relief, protection for private property rights, economic development opportunities, and policies that make quality, affordable child care more widely available. That’s why I’m asking voters for another term.”

Bloomingdale currently serves as Chair of the House State Government Committee. In that role, she helped lead legislation restructuring state government, reducing the number of state departments from 37 to 16 and eliminating or merging 83 boards and commissions. She has also focused on election security efforts and tax reform initiatives, including eliminating the inheritance tax, lowering the state income tax rate, and ending taxes on retirement income.

House Speaker Pat Grassley, R–New Hartford, voiced his support for Bloomingdale’s re-election.

“Jane stands out in the Iowa House for her tireless work ethic and her refusal to rush to judgment,” Grassley said. “As a leader on tax issues, she has been instrumental in crafting and passing policies that provide real relief to Iowans while ensuring our state remains fiscally sound.”

A lifelong Northwood resident, Bloomingdale previously served 20 years in city government, including time on the City Council and as mayor. She holds a degree in education and worked for the Northwood-Kensett School District as a coach and substitute teacher. She later continued her education in accounting and has owned and operated Bloomingdale Tax and Accounting for 30 years.

In addition to chairing the State Government Committee, Bloomingdale serves on the Local Government and Ways and Means Committees, the Legislative Council, and the Public Retirement Systems and State Government Efficiency Review statutory committees.

Bloomingdale lives in Northwood with her husband, Jim. The couple has two children.

House District 60 includes communities across North Iowa. The general election will be held in November.
