Richard “Dick” Ernest Uetz, the son of Ernest and E. Annie (Harris) Uetz, was born June 18, 1942, in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1960.
Dick was united in marriage to Kay Ann Schwartzrock on March 18, 1960. The couple made their home in Charles City and raised their two boys: Dirk and Darien. He started work as the local milkman in Charles City.
Dick was also employed as a machinist at Oliver/White Farm for several years and retired as a freeze drier operator for Solvay/Fort Dodge Labs. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge in Charles City. Dick was also very involved with Pheasants Forever where he served as President for one year and was inducted, along with his sons Dirk and Darien, into the Iowa Pheasants Forever Hall of Fame on January 25, 2019.
Dick enjoyed collecting Winchester guns and memorabilia, attending auctions, cutting and splitting wood, deer hunting, gardening and cheering on Iowa Hawkeye sports (especially wrestling). He loved attending his family’s extracurricular activities and supporting them when he could. Recently the state wrestling tournament was on TV and his son along with his three grandsons got to enjoy some quality time watching with him. Dick loved his family very much and most often put all others before himself. He was such a caring, gentle soul who took care of his wife, Kay, for years on his own without asking anyone for help.
Living family members include his son, Darien (Julie) Uetz; daughter-in-law, Shelly Uetz; six grandchildren: Shana (Brian) Kellogg, Dustin (Kelsey) Uetz, Brooke (Nick) Landers, Shane (Cindy) Uetz, Breanna (Alex) Bender and Seth Uetz (Ciera Askildson); 15 great-grandchildren: Adric, Zoey, Ellie, Macy, Harper, Kinley, Mya, Teagen, Huxley, Owen, Lennon, Sullivan, Kowen, Tate and Camden; brother, Russell (Debbie) Uetz; sister, Barbara Uetz; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay in 2020; son, Dirk in 2022; sister, Ruth Uetz in 2023; and his special friend, Maida Wiegmann in 2023.
