Another Legendary Northeast Iowa Baseball Coach Passes

Another legendary northeast Iowa high school baseball coach has passed away.
The Eastern Allamakee School District has announced that Gene Schultz, the all-time winningest coach in Iowa high school baseball history, died Monday (02.23). Schultz spent his career at Kee High School, where he coached both baseball and basketball.
It was baseball that Schultz built his legacy over a 45-year career, compiling 1,754 wins. He led the Kee Hawks to 19 state tournaments, claiming nine summer state championships and two fall championships.
Schultz won his first state title in 1973, when his team went 47-0 to claim the Class 1A championship.
Schultz’ death comes one month after former, longtime Decorah baseball coach Dennis Olejniczak, passed away on January 24th.
Olejniczak led Decorah High School baseball for over 50 years, winning state titles in 1970, 1990, and 1991. His Vikings teams finished as state runners-up in 1989, 1992, and 2012. Olejniczak amassed a career total of 1417 wins.
Olejniczak was a founding member of the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Both Olejniczak and Schultz are members of the IHSBCA Hall of Fame.
