Waverly Teen Dies After Being Hit By Train

A 16-year-old boy was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a train in Waverly, according to Waverly Police.  Officers were notified around 7:14 a.m. of an accident involving a pedestrian and a train near Waverly Health Center and Waverly-Shell Rock High School. When officers arrived, they confirmed the teen had died at the scene.  The incident remains under investigation by Waverly police and CN Railway Police.  Authorities say the teen’s family has been notified.

Earlier Tuesday morning, Bremer County Emergency Management had reported a train was blocking access through parts of Waverly. The Iowa Department of Transportation said Iowa Highway 3 was closed between US Highway 218 and 4th Street SW due to emergency vehicles.  Officials advised drivers to expect traffic delays for several hours and asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
