Chris Berg spoke with Charles City VFW Commander Denny Hull about several updates and happenings at the local post. Hull says the VFW continues to host their popular Friday Fish Fry during Lent from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., with dine-in or carry-out available. The VFW is also continuing to rent out their hall for events, including graduation parties, and offers medical equipment that can be borrowed free of charge by anyone in the community. Hull also talked about preparations for Memorial Day, noting that volunteers are needed to help place flags on more than 2,000 veterans’ graves in the area. The VFW is also planning a large event coming up in June, with more details expected soon.

The Charles City VFW Fish Fry is held Fridays during Lent from 4:30–7:00 p.m. with dine-in or carry-out available for $15 per person.

For information about the fish fry, hall rentals, borrowing medical equipment, or volunteering to help place flags for Memorial Day, contact Commander Denny Hull at 641-220-1955 or find the Charles City VFW on Facebook.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
