Volunteers Needed for Emergency Response Exercise at Mason City Airport

MASON CITY, Iowa — Local emergency officials are asking community members to step into the role of “patients” during an upcoming emergency response training exercise designed to help first responders sharpen life-saving skills.

According to a Facebook post from the Mason City Police Department, the full-scale emergency exercise will take place June 17 at the Mason City Municipal Airport. Organizers are seeking volunteers from the community to participate in the simulation.

During the exercise, volunteers will act as patients in a staged emergency scenario. The simulation allows firefighters, law enforcement, EMS crews, and other first responders to practice triage procedures and emergency medical response techniques in a realistic setting.

Officials say no prior experience is required to volunteer. Participants will help emergency personnel train for large-scale incidents and improve coordination between agencies during disasters.

Organizers emphasize that the event not only supports local emergency responders but also gives community members a unique behind-the-scenes look at how disaster response works.

The training exercise is intended to prepare first responders to better handle real emergencies and ultimately help save lives.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Randy Elsbernd with the Mason City Fire Department by email at [email protected].

Emergency officials say community participation plays a critical role in making the training as realistic and effective as possible.
