Osage/Riceville School Districts Begin Advertising for Shared Superintendent

A pair of north Iowa school districts have begun the process to hire a new shared superintendent.
Last month, Barb Schwamman announced her resignation as shared superintendent for Osage and Riceville schools. Schwamman has held the position for the past 11 years in Osage and has been shared in Riceville for the last nine years. Her resignation will be effective at the end of the current school year, which is June 30th.
Schwamman said she has accepted a leadership position as Director of District and School Support with Keystone Area Education Agency (AEA), beginning July 1st.
Schwamman said her new role “offers an opportunity to work in close partnership with school districts and accredited non-public schools to strengthen instructional systems, address achievement gaps, and improve outcomes for all learners through integrated agency services.”
Osage and Riceville are working with EDK Consulting, LLC, headed up by former Waverly-Shell Rock Superintendent Ed Klamforth, in the recruitment of candidates to succeed Schwamman. Applications are to be submitted by 4 pm March 20th.
As of Monday (03.09), Klamforth said he had several inquiries but have yet to receive a completed application. The current hiring timeline calls for the school boards plan to conduct interviews on Monday, April 6. How many will interview could depend on the pool of candidates.
Klamforth also notes that will be an opportunity for a team of community members to interview the candidates.
