More Than 240 Iowa Hospital Leaders Gather at State Capitol for Hospital Day on the Hill

DES MOINES, Iowa – More than 240 hospital leaders, health care professionals and advocates from across the state gathered at the Iowa State Capitol Wednesday for the Iowa Hospital Association’s annual Hospital Day on the Hill.

The event brought together representatives from 76 Iowa hospitals and health systems to meet with lawmakers and discuss key health care issues impacting communities throughout the state.

Organized by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA), the day focused on strengthening communication between hospital leaders and state legislators while highlighting challenges facing Iowa’s health care system.

“Iowa hospitals are essential to the health and economic vitality of our communities,” said Chris Mitchell, IHA President and CEO. “Hospital Day on the Hill provides an opportunity for legislators to hear directly from hospital and health system representatives about the challenges and opportunities facing Iowa’s health care system.”

Participants discussed several issues currently affecting hospitals and health systems, including workforce shortages, improving access to care in rural and underserved communities, and efforts to lower health care costs.

Throughout the day, hospital leaders met with lawmakers, attended policy briefings and shared real-world examples of how legislative decisions impact patients, medical professionals and local economies.

According to IHA officials, the annual event reinforces the organization’s commitment to advocacy, education and collaboration in advancing high-quality health care across Iowa.

“Iowa hospitals are not just care providers, they are major employers and community anchors,” Mitchell said. “Strong public policy is critical to sustaining these institutions and the services they provide. Hospital Day on the Hill allows us to share real-world frontline perspectives with policymakers and work collaboratively on solutions that ensure Iowans continue to have access to safe, high-quality care close to home.”

The Iowa Hospital Association represents 121 hospitals and health systems statewide and provides members with advocacy support, education and data services.
