Get Ready for Summer Grilling with ISU Extension Barbecue Class in Ames
AMES, Iowa — As warmer weather approaches, Iowans are firing up their grills in anticipation of summer barbecue season. To help sharpen those skills, the Iowa Pork Industry Center and Iowa State University Meats Laboratory are teaming up to offer a hands-on pork barbecue class later next month.
The class will be held Saturday April 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kildee Hall on the Iowa State University campus in Ames.
Participants will learn a variety of barbecue techniques, including how to properly marinate, season and prepare different cuts of pork. The course will also cover basic grill maintenance, with attendees getting the opportunity to practice their skills under the guidance of ISU Extension and Outreach experts.
The class is open to anyone 18 years or older who is interested in improving their grilling knowledge. Throughout the session, participants will sample a range of pork products and will have the option to take home the items they prepare.
Pre-registration is required by April 17, and space is limited to 30 participants. The cost is $20 per person, which includes all materials and supplies.
For more information or to register, contact the Iowa Pork Industry Center at 515-294-4103 or email Laura Greiner at [email protected].
