Mason City to Host National Civics Bee Regional Competition for Middle School Students

MASON CITY, Iowa — The Greater Mason City Chamber of Commerce will host the 2026 National Civics Bee® Regional Competition on Thursday, April 2, bringing together middle school students from across North Iowa for a day focused on civic knowledge and community engagement.

The event, scheduled for 1 p.m., will take place in the FEMA Room at John Adams Middle School, located at 29 S. Illinois Ave.

Twenty middle school students will compete in the regional contest, which is part of a nationwide initiative designed to encourage young Americans to take an active role in civics. Participants will demonstrate their understanding of government and civic principles while also presenting ideas to address challenges facing their communities.

The National Civics Bee is an annual competition aimed at fostering civic responsibility and leadership among youth. Students are evaluated on both their knowledge of civics and their ability to think critically about real-world issues.

Winners of the regional competition will receive cash prizes and may advance to higher levels of the competition.
