Scattered Storms to Bring Much-Needed Rain Across Iowa

Iowans can expect a welcome dose of rain today and tonight as scattered showers and thunderstorms move across the state, bringing much-needed moisture to the region.
According to forecasts, showers and storms will develop throughout the day Wednesday, with activity becoming more widespread into the evening and overnight hours. The system is expected to deliver beneficial rainfall totals, particularly for areas that have recently experienced dry conditions.
Rainfall amounts are projected to range from 1 to 2 inches across parts of Iowa, with locally higher totals possible in stronger storms.
While the rain will be beneficial, it may also create some travel concerns. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to ponding on roadways, especially in urban areas and spots with poor drainage. Minor flooding may also occur in low-lying areas.
Drivers are urged to use caution during heavier downpours, reduce speed, and watch for water-covered roads.
The rain is expected to taper off after the system moves through, leaving behind improved soil moisture conditions as the state heads further into spring.
