Rake Man Sentenced After Guilty Pleas in Sexual Abuse Case

BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa — A Rake man has been sentenced following guilty pleas to multiple charges stemming from a 2023 incident in Buffalo Center.
Jaycob Manuel Guthart, born August 7, 2006, pled guilty to Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class C felony, related to an incident that occurred on or about December 12, 2023.
According to court records, Guthart was sentenced to a prison term not to exceed 10 years. That sentence was suspended, and he was placed on probation for five years under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. As part of the sentence, Guthart is required to reside at a residential correctional facility for 180 days.
Upon completion of the sentence, Guthart will be committed to the custody of the Iowa Department of Corrections for life, with eligibility for parole.
Guthart must also register as a sex offender, complete recommended sex offender treatment, and provide a DNA sample for profiling.
In a related case, Guthart also pled guilty to Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor, stemming from the same December 2023 incident.
For that charge, he received a prison sentence not to exceed two years, which was also suspended. He will serve two years of probation under the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
Additionally, Guthart was ordered to pay a fine of $855 plus a 15% crime services surcharge. He must also reside at a residential correctional facility for 180 days and comply with the same requirements, including sex offender registration, treatment, and DNA profiling.
Both cases were handled in connection with the Winnebago County court system.
