Charges Filed Against Michigan Man Following Amber Alert Activation in Northeast Iowa

An AMBER Alert for a missing northeast Iowa 12-year-old has led to kidnapping charges against a Michigan man.
The alert was issued just after 5 PM Sunday (04.05), indicating that Deyton Annabelle Cranston of Waterloo was last seen with a man only identified as “Danny.” He was said to be Hispanic or Indian and driving a red Toyota Camry with a black spoiler, tinted windows, and no front license plate.
Waterloo Police said the girl had been reported missing around 12:30 PM Sunday from the 200 block of Byron Avenue in Waterloo and that her cellphone had been found along Interstate 380, about 30 miles south of that area.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety ended the alert about 6:45 pm Sunday after Waterloo Police detectives were notified that the suspect vehicle had been located by law enforcement in Caloma Township, Michigan, and the child was safe with law enforcement.
Following further investigation, WPD has charged 23-year-old Daniyal Khan of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with second-degree kidnapping, a Class B felony; sexual exploitation of a minor, a Class C felony; indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Khan was taken into custody and booked into the Berrien County Michigan Jail, where he is currently being held.
No additional information will be released at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.
