Driver Injured Sunday Morning After Pickup Crashes Into Shell Rock River Near Clarksville

A single-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Butler County left a Clarksville man injured after his pickup entered the Shell Rock River.
According to a minimal crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 10:12 a.m. on Sunday morning, near the intersection of Highway 188 and 195th Street in Clarksville.
Authorities say a 2023 Toyota pickup, driven by 45-year-old Adam C. Averhoff of Clarksville, was traveling northbound on Highway 188 when it left the roadway just north of 195th Street. The vehicle continued off the road and came to rest in the Shell Rock River.
Averhoff was able to exit the vehicle on his own and was treated for injuries at the scene. He was transported by Clarksville EMS to UnityPoint for further care. Officials noted that he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which is believed to have helped prevent more serious injuries.
No other vehicles or individuals are believed to have been involved.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Clarksville Police Department, Clarksville EMS, Clarksville Fire Department, Butler County Emergency Management, the Iowa Dive Team, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and McDivitt’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
